YALI Alumna Armel Azihar Sylva Takes Leadership to the Next Level at the UN Transforming Education Summit

YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship 2019 alumna Armel Azihar Sylva took leadership to the next level at the 2022 United Nations Transforming Education Summit in New York. As moderator of the panel on “Good Practices in Youth Engagement,” she and Ministers of Education from Ecuador, Portugal, and Côte d’Ivoire shared best practices with emerging and established leaders from around the world.

In addition to her role as a youth advisor to the United Nations Transforming Education Summit, Armel is a youth educational activist, advocate for girls’ and women’s rights, feminist, and STEM teacher.  She serves as the Deputy Head of Education, Science and Technology Cluster at SAYoF-SADC (Southern Africa Youth Forum of SADC)  and also serves as the media consultant and a key educator at I’m a Rad African (IMARA) Comoros.

In addition to these important roles, she serves as a GPE (Global Partnership for Education) youth leader, member of the SDG4YOUTH (Sustainable Development Goals for Youth) Network, and advocates for inclusive education for all.
